My starting lineup of spices

Updated: Dec 6, 2020

1. CHILI POWDER for instant spice and heat. Can also help with inflammation.

2. CINNAMON great sweetener alternative that can help lower blood sugar.

3. CORIANDER so versatile! Can be used in everything from curries to Italian dishes.

4. CUMIN a must in stews and Mexican dishes.

5. CURRY POWDER great for spicing up vegetables and helping with digestion.

6. GARLIC POWDER I run through this quicker than any other spice.

7. GINGER great for Asian dishes. Also, can help with digestion.

8. PAPRIKA less heat than chili powder, still packing a whole lot of spices.

9. SEA SALT great for use in moderation- a healthy alternative to table salt.

10. TURMERIC slightly bitter and packed with peppery spice.

Tiny Tips

QUALITY OVER QUANTITY: I recently purged my kitchen and threw half of the spices

out since they expired- most were barely used! I've since cut my purchases and

have been surprised how far quality spices can stretch. Thrive Market and Trader Joe's have really great, affordable options.

POWDERS OVER SALT: Did you know we should only be eating about 1500mg of

sodium per day? Imagine a third of your thumb lightly covered in salt—that’s it!

Powders pack a lot of flavor and health benefits, without overloading you on sodium. If

you want to opt for a healthier salt option, Himalayan salt is a good go-to in moderation.

MAKING YOUR OWN BLENDS: Take a look at the back of the seasoning packs at

the store. In most, you’ll find added sugars, refined salts, and preservatives no one can

pronounce. With a few basic powders and herbs, you can make so many cool

combinations: Be on the lookout for these throughout LTK recipes.
